This course is for people who want to work as an enrolled nurse. You will be required to undertake clinical work placement in a variety of approved clinical facilities, as an associate to a registered nurse.

You will learn about legal and ethical issues in health care, effective communication strategies, anatomy and physiology and development through the lifespan. A range of medical and health problems and related nursing care in a variety of contexts such as medical/surgical nursing, paediatrics or aged care as well as the administration of medication is also delivered within the course.

There are twenty eight (28) units of competency and one (1) work place clinical practice module that must be successfully completed to achieve the qualification. You may be able to attempt this course as a full time learner, as a trainee employed by a health or aged care facility.

You should be aware that as clinical work placement in a public, private hospital or other clinical facility is a compulsory part of this course, you will need to undergo occupational screening and be vaccinated against infectious diseases. You will also be required to undertake a Criminal Record Check and complete a Prohibited Employment Declaration. Your teachers will give you further advice.

When you finish this course you can apply for enrolment with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Australia to practise as an enrolled nurse (Registered Nurse Division 2). Learners must be aware that in order to gain enrolment with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Australia you must demonstrate sufficient physical and mental capacity to practise as a nurse in a range of health care facilities.
